How to pay with ZAR or crypto using VALR Pay

VALR Pay allows you to use your ZAR or supported cryptocurrencies for everyday purchases across South Africa - from groceries and coffee to fuel and online shopping. See where VALR Pay is accepted here.   

Before you can pay, make sure your VALR account is funded with ZAR or crypto. Once your account has funds, you can pay in person by scanning a QR code or online using supported payment options.

Paying-in-store: 

To pay at a physical store:

1. Look for the Zapper or Scan to Pay QR code at checkout. You may need to ask the cashier for the Contactless QR payment option or select it on the point-of-sale device.
2. Open the VALR app and go to Pay.
   
       
3. Tap the QR Scan icon between the Receive and Pay options, and scan the merchant’s QR code.
   
    
           
4. Select the crypto or ZAR you want to pay with.
5. Confirm the payment and tap Pay now.
   
           

Paying online:

You can pay with VALR Pay wherever the following payment options are available at checkout:

• Zapper
• Peach Payments
• Scan to Pay 
• Ozow
• MoneyBadger 

Steps to pay online:

1. At checkout, select one of the supported payment options above.
2. Choose ZAR or the crypto you want to pay with.
3. Follow the on-screen prompts and confirm the transaction in your VALR app.
