Securing your legacy shouldn't be a headache for your loved ones. Having a valid Last Will and Testament is the most effective way to ensure your crypto assets are handled exactly as you intend. Upon your passing, your VALR holdings become part of your legal estate and are managed by your appointed Executor / Administrator of your estate.
VALR is here to help you and your loved ones manage your crypto in the event of your passing. To maintain the highest security standards, we follow a rigorous verification process to ensure your crypto assets are accessed by authorised persons.
We’re only able to share information and release funds to the person officially appointed to manage the estate (the Executor or Administrator or other person given Power of Attorney). Before any funds can be paid out, we’ll need to complete some standard verification steps with them.
The Administrator’s / Executor’s Checklist
The Administrator / Executor of your estate will be responsible for transferring funds from your account to your heirs. To begin this process, they should email help@valr.com and inform us of your passing.
The Administrator / Executor must also provide the following documentation to our Helpdesk (help@valr.com):
- Letters of Authority /Executorship (from the Master of the High Court in South Africa - this should show the Administrator / Executor’s name and the Deceased’s name). Note: Letters of Authority apply if the value of your entire estate is less than R250,000 and Letters of Executorship apply if the value of your entire estate is more than R250,000.
- Certified copy of Death Certificate.
- Certified ID copies of both the deceased VALR account holder and the Executor/ Administrator.
- Copy of the Last Will and Testament.
- Account details: Confirmation of the email and phone number linked to the VALR account.
Any other relevant documents as requested by VALR.
If you contact us and you are not the Administrator / Executor, we will need the following additional documents:
A Power of Attorney or equivalent Proof of Authority letter, signed by the Executor, granting you the authority to act on their behalf.
Your certified ID copy.
What happens once VALR has received and accepted all the required documents?
The Administrator / Executor / Authorised Person can:
Withdraw any Rand balances held to the estate’s bank account.
Transfer the crypto assets to another wallet.
Instruct VALR to convert all crypto balances to Rand for withdrawal, after which the Administrator / Executor / Authorised Person can transfer the funds to the estate’s bank account.
Security & Peace of Mind

Important Security Note: Your beneficiaries do not need your VALR login credentials. In fact, including passwords or private keys in a Will creates a major security risk.
